The Newsletter of the 6th Erin Mills Scout Troop | February 16, 1998 |
Every summer for the past several years the Troop has spent a week in July camping. Last summer members of the 6th Erin Mills Scout Troop traveled to Thunder Bay to take part in the 9th Canadian Jamboree along with 14,000 other Scouts from around the world. The next CJ for Scouts and Venturers will take place during July 2001 on Prince Edward Island.
This summer the Troop plans to return to the Haliburton Scout Reserve (HSR) for the week from June 27th until July 4th. We have camped there over the past several summers (excluding 1997) and have had an absolutely fabulous experience. Our Troop camps on a site by ourselves somewhat removed from all the other Troops camping in similar situations around the lake. During the week we spend activity periods mixing with Scouts primarily from across Ontario but also from the United States and elsewhere. The activities include archery, swimming, hiking, snorkeling, riflery, fishing, kayaking and canoeing and lots of other things to do with new friends and on our own. Not every minute is programmed and there is free time and some time set aside just to relax.
The cost for the week includes all activities, food, supplies and Troop equipment from the time we arrive at HSR at noon on June 27th until we depart at noon on July 4th. This year the cost of the camp will be $235.00. This may be paid all at once on March 2nd or in three installments: deposit of $50.00 on March 2nd, second payment of $100.00 on April 20th and the final payment of $85.00 on June 1st. All payments should be made by cheque to the 6th Erin Mills Scout Troop. For your convenience we will accept cheques post-dated to the payment due date.
Please complete and return the attached form with your first payment to our regular meeting on March 2nd. If you have any questions about the Haliburton Scouting experience, contact Scouter Dave. If you are on-line, you can check out HSR
Please note, we are in need of adults to help with this camp. Even if you cannot be there for the entire week a few days of assistance will help make this camp a great time for all.
